Abstract
Traumatic ulcers are oral diseases that cause pain, difficulty opening the mouth, and discomfort. In more serious cases, traumatic ulcers can cause stress and anxiety, which can lead to a decrease in the quality of life of sufferers. Treatment of traumatic ulcers can be done by eliminating the causative factors and supported by chemical drugs or herbal medicines. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of 4% red ginger extract gel (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) on the healing of traumatic ulcers in terms of ulcer size and erythema. The design of this study was a quasi-experimental study. This study was conducted on 32 Wistar rats which were randomly divided into two groups: a treatment group given red ginger extract gel (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) and a negative control group given CMC-Na base gel (placebo). Observations of ulcer size and erythema were carried out on days 1, 3, 5, and 7. Data analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test and the Chi-Square test. The results showed that administration of red ginger extract gel had an effect on the healing of traumatic ulcers, as seen from the size of the ulcer on days 3, 5, and 7 (p<0.05) and on erythema (p<0.05). In conclusion, red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum) extract gel has been proven to be effective in helping to heal traumatic ulcers, characterized by a reduction in ulcer size and erythema.
