Literary works are a form of art expressed through language. Literary works are
created as expressions of the author's views on human life. Hikayat is a type of
old prose literary work, also known as classical literature, which is a cultural and
ethnic (regional) literary work. It is a record of the lives and experiences of
people in the past, as part of humanistic works that not only serve as
entertainment but also have values that can be used as learning materials. This
study aims to describe and analyze the Islamic values contained in the collection
of old Malay manuscripts, namely Hikayat Raja Jumjumah and Hikayat Si Miskin,
using the theory of Islamic values proposed by Muhaimin and employing a
sociological approach to literature. The method used in this study is descriptive
qualitative with content analysis techniques on the text of the hikayat. Data
collection techniques use literature review and note-taking. The results of the
study show that the Islamic values contained in Hikayat Raja Jumjumah and
Hikayat Si Miskin are: (1) faith values, which include belief in Allah, belief in
angels, belief in prophets and messengers, and belief in the Day of Judgement, (2)
sharia/worship values, which include specific worship and general worship, and
(3) moral values, which include responsibility, caring, mutual aid, and justice.
Thus, these tales are not only of literary value but can also serve as a medium for
character education based on Islamic values.
