Self-control Grit is perseverance and passion for achieving long-term goals, characterized by interest and persistence. Self-control is one of the factors influencing grit in helping individuals manage negative emotions such as sadness, anger, or frustration that can hinder achievement, develop discipline, and assist individuals in overcoming difficulties and failures. The purpose of this study is to examine whether there is a positive role of self-control on grit among undergraduate students working on their theses at the Faculty of Psychology, University of North Sumatra. The sample consisted of 50 students. This study used a quantitative method with data collection using a Likert scale, namely the Self-Control Scale developed by the researcher based on the aspects of Self-Control by Baumeister (2012). The data obtained were analyzed using assumption testing and hypothesis testing techniques. The results of the analysis indicate that self-control has a significant positive role in grit, with the regression equation formed as Y = 68.894 + 0.063 X (where Y is the grit score and X is the self-control score), with a regression coefficient b = 0.063 that is significant at p < 0.001. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.378 indicates that approximately 37.8% of the variability in grit scores can be explained by differences in self-control scores. These findings suggest that self-control has a positive role in grit among students working on their theses at the Faculty of Psychology, University of North Sumatra.en_US
