The Role of Internal Communication in Enhancing Employee Performance Effectiveness at the Office of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises North Sumatra Province
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of internal communication in enhancing the
effectiveness of employee performance at the Office of Cooperatives, Small and
Medium Enterprises of North Sumatra Province. Internal communication is
regarded as a crucial element in creating a productive work environment,
particularly within government agencies that require intensive cross-unit
coordination. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data
through open-ended questionnaires, direct observation, and literature review. The
findings reveal that the majority of respondents hold positive views on the
implementation of internal communication, especially in the form of vertical
communication and routine inter-departmental meetings. Approximately 92.6% of
respondents believe that effective communication has a positive impact on their
performance. However, several challenges remain, such as unclear directives from
supervisors, limited opportunities for employees to express their opinions, and
communication disparities between civil servants (ASN) and non-ASN staff. The
study concludes that internal communication significantly influences employee
performance effectiveness. Therefore, it is recommended that the organization
strengthen two-way communication, leverage information technology, provide
communication training for leaders, and conduct regular evaluations to achieve
more optimal employee performance.
