    Abstract
Job satisfaction is a crucial aspect of human resource management as it directly relates to employees’ motivation, productivity, and performance. One of the factors believed to influence job satisfaction is person-job fit. This study aims to analyze the effect of person-job fit on job satisfaction among employees at the Department of Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUTR) in Langkat Regency. The concept of person-job fit in this research includes two dimensions: demand-abilities fit (the match between individual abilities and job demands) and need-supplies fit (the alignment between employee expectations and job characteristics). The issue arises when employees are placed in positions not aligned with their educational background or competencies, which may reduce job satisfaction. The study employed a quantitative associative approach. The population consisted of 79 employees, with a sample of 52 civil servants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS. The regression equation Y = 15.376 + 0.574X indicates that every one-unit increase in person-job fit increases job satisfaction by 0.574. The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.429, meaning that person-job fit explains 42.9% of job satisfaction, while the remaining percentage is influenced by other factors outside this study. The partial test (t count 6.859 > t table 2.009) with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 confirms that person-job fit has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction. These findings highlight the importance of effective human resource management in ensuring job placement that matches employees’ competencies and expectations. Appropriate placement can improve both job satisfaction and productivity in public institutions such as the PUTR Department.
