The plant design for the manufacture of bioplastic from empty fruit bunches by acetylation process has a production capacity of 50,000 tonnes/year and operates for 330 days a year. The main processes in this preliminary plant design consist of three stages, namely the pulp formation stage, the cellulose acetate production stage, and the bioplastic production stage. The pulp formation stage uses a digester that operates at a temperature of 80°C and a pressure of 1 atm for 60 minutes. The cellulose acetate formation stage uses an acetylation reactor that operates at a temperature of 53°C and a pressure of 1 atm for 60 minutes, requiring 228.795 kg/hour of cellulose with a reaction conversion of 98%. Then, in the bioplastic manufacturing stage, a mixing tank operating at a temperature of 30°C for 30 minutes is used, requiring 340.499 kg/hour of cellulose acetate, 5,809.629 kg/hour of dichloromethane solvent, and 116.192 kg/hour of polycaprolactone. Bioplastic is molded using a single screw extruder. The plant location is planned in Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone, Simalungun, North Sumatra with an area of 19.376,4 m2. The planned form of business entity is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a total workforce of 169 people. For the establishment and operation of the plant requires investment capital of IDR 1.825.058.521.720,80 and production costs of IDR 1.473.135.443.504,54. Based on the feasibility analysis, this plant has a BEP of 32.76%, ROI of 27.81%, POT for 3,6 years, RON of 45.35%, and IRR of 24.94%. From the results of economic analysis, it can be concluded that the pre- design of bioplastic production plant from empty fruit bunches by acetylation process is feasible.en_US
