dc.description.abstractThe triacetin plant from crude glycerol, a byproduct of the biodiesel industry, is designed with a capacity of 32,000 tons/year and operates continuously for 330 days/year and 24 hours/day. The process carried out in this plant consists of three stages, namely crude glycerol purification, triacetin synthesis and finally triacetin purification. The process used in crude glycerol purification is a distillation process carried out using a flash tank at a pressure of 1 atm. Triacetin synthesis is carried out using an esterification reactor using a sulfuric acid catalyst operating at a temperature of 134 °C and a pressure of 1 atm. Triacetin purification is carried out in a distillation tower, but the separation of components with glycerol in it is separated by a distillation column to prevent glycerol degradation when used for recycling. The first distillation tower will separate acetic acid - water with triacetin - glycerol. Acetic acid - water is obtained to be recycled back to the flash tank. Triacetin-glycerol is separated in a distillation column to obtain glycerol as a bottom product to be recycled back to the flash tank. This factory is planned to be established in the Dumai Industrial Area (KID), Pelintung Village, Medang Kampai District, Riau Province, with an area of 30,000 m2 and employing 252 employees. Energy requirements to run this factory include electricity requirements of 5167.07 kW. Meanwhile, water requirements for utilities are 136.78 tons/year and instrument air 200 m3/hour. The results of the economic analysis of the Triacetin Plant from Crude Cellulose Glycerol are as follows: • Total Investment Capital = Rp. 1.611.196.933.560,00 • Total Production Cost = Rp. 1.098.036.414.990,00 • Sales results = Rp. 1.698.309.055.878,00 • Net profit = Rp. 392.933.443.461,00 • Profit Margin = 33,05% • Break Even Point = 9,76% • Return on Investment = 24,39% • Pay Out Time = 4 year 6 motnh • Return on Network = 40,65% • Internal Rate of Return = 28,34% Based on the results of the economic aspect analysis, it can be concluded that a triacetin manufacturing plant from crude glycerol raw materials through the Esterification Process is feasible to be established.en_US
