Pengaruh Pemberian Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit Terhadap Sifat Fisika Tanah Pada Areal Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit
The Effect of Empty Oil Palm Fruit Bunches on Soil Physical Properties in Oil Palm Plantation Areas
Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effect of applying empty oil palm fruit bunches (EFB) on soil physical properties in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) plantations. The study was conducted in an oil palm plantation and the Research and Development Center Laboratory of PT. Nusa Pusaka Kencana Bahilang (Asian Agri), Tebing Syahbandar District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra Province, from June to December 2024. The study used a survey method and purposive sampling. Sampling points are determined based on variations in slope gradient and frequency of application of oil palm empty bunches. The results showed that the application of empty oil palm fruit bunches (EFB) affected several soil physical properties. Although it did not alter soil texture, it did affect soil structure and permeability with the duration of EFB application. Soil consistency, bulk density, and particle density did not change significantly. EFB application also increased soil water content, especially with two applications. Overall, EFB application proved effective in improving soil physical properties, particularly in flat topography, with two applications, and in the surface soil layer. This supports the use of TKKS as a sustainable organic soil conditioner in the management of oil palm plantations
