Background: The use of natural ingredients as alternative stimulants is in creasingly in demand to improve stamina and motor coordination. Shallots (Allium cepa L.) fermented into black onions are known to increase the content of bioactive compounds that have the potential to have a positive effect on motor coordination through their influence on the central nervous system. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of black onion improving the motor coordination response of male white Wistar rats and determine the optimal dose that provides the best stimulant effect. Methods: Black onion ethanol extract was obtained through maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. Phytochemical screening was conducted to detect secondary metabolite compounds, while the stimulant effect was evaluated using Rotarod Performance Test. The study was conducted with five treatment group swith doses of black onion extract 50 mg/kg body weight, 100 mg/kg body weight,200 mg/kg body weight. Results: Phytochemical screening results show that black onion extract contains flavonoids, glycosides, saponins and alkaloids, but does not contain tannins /phenolics and steroids / triterpenoids. Evaluation using Rotarod Performance Test shows that giving black onion extract at certain doses increases the endurance time of rats on rotating rods, with a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight and 200 mg/kg body weight giving the best results in improving motor coordination compared to other groups. Conclusion: Ethanol extract of black onion has a significant stimulant effect on motor coordination of rats, with the optimal dose at 100 mg/kg body weight and200 mg/kg body weight. These results indicate that black onion is an alternative natural ingredient to increase body stamina.en_US
