    Abstract
Banana pseudo-stems with high cellulose content have significant potential to be utilized as an alternative raw material for pulp production, replacing wood whose availability is increasingly limited. The abundant banana production in Indonesia generates large amounts of pseudo-stem waste, while the national demand for pulp continues to rise. Currently, most pulp industries still rely on the kraft process, which produces sulfur emissions and has adverse environmental impacts. Through the organosolv process, banana pseudo-stems can be converted into high-quality pulp that is environmentally friendly, while simultaneously reducing agricultural waste and dependence on imported pulp. This plant design proposes a pulp production facility from banana pseudo-stems using the organosolv process with a design capacity of 250,000 tons per year, operating 330 days annually. The plant is planned to be located on available land in Blitar Regency, East Java Province. The objective of this preliminary design is to apply chemical engineering principles, including material and energy balances, process and equipment design, chemical engineering operations, utilities, and other aspects of chemical engineering knowledge. Total capital investment : Rp 3.222.980.295.438 Production cost : Rp 2.962.695.558.336 Sales revenue : Rp 3.593.317.406.699 Net profit : Rp 389.714.991.364 Profit margin : 16,67% Break even point : 41,89% Return on investment : 12,09% Pay out time : 8 years 4 months Return on network : 20,15% Internal rate of return : 9,12% From the results of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that the preliminary design of the pulp manufacturing plant from banana pseudostems is feasible to establish.
