Peran Sektor Perdagangan dan Jasa dalam Perekonomian Kota Medan

Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of the trade sector in the economy of Medan City, the role of the service sector in the economy of Medan City, and the simultaneous role of both the trade and service sectors in the economy of Medan City. This study employs a quantitative method with comparative analysis. Data collection techniques include Field Research, Library Research, and Internet Research. The data used in this study are sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics (Badan Pusat Statistik), which publishes the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Medan City for the period 1994–2023. The statistical analysis is carried out through hypothesis testing using the t-test, preceded by classical assumption testing. Data processing is conducted with the EViews 12 program. The findings of this study indicate that, based on the t-test, the trade sector has a significant role in the economic growth of Medan City, with the multiple linear regression test showing a positive impact of the trade sector on the city’s economy. Similarly, based on the t-test, the service sector also has a significant role in the economic growth of Medan City, with regression results showing a positive influence of the service sector on the economy. Furthermore, based on the F-test, the trade and service sectors simultaneously play a significant role in the economic growth of Medan City.
