Abstract
Tavip Binjai Market is one of the traditional markets located in Binjai City, Binjai District, North Sumatra Province, which has poor sanitation, as evidenced by the large amount of litter scattered around, stagnant water around the stalls, which becomes a source of odor and a breeding ground for diseases, affecting the health of the vendors. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of vendors, their behavior, including their knowledge, attitudes, and actions in achieving a healthy market at Tavip Binjai Market. The type of research is descriptive. The sample size consists of 44 fish vendors using the total sampling method. The results of the study show that the majority of vendors are male 33 people (75%), with the most common age range being 32-47 years old 18 people (40,9%), having worked for more than 10 years 23 people (52,3%), working more than 8 hours per day 28 people (63,6%), and earning less than Rp. 3,000,000, totaling 34 people (77,3%). The vendors knowledge was categorized as poor at 75 percent, their attitude was categorized as good at 95,5 percent, and their actions were categorized as good at 97,7 percent. The market sanitation assessment score does not meet the health standards set by Ministry of Health Regulation No. 17 of 2020, as it only achieved a score of 46,48 percent. It is recommended that market managers provide handwashing facilities at each fish vendor stall, closed drainage systems, and conduct health checks for vendors at least every six months.
