Abstract
This study aims to analyze the Pemamanen tradition and its relationship to the kinship system of the Alas Tribe in Southeast Aceh. The Alas Tribe, as an ethnic group rich in culture and tradition, has a pemamanen practice that is not only related to cultural aspects, but also to the social and kinship values that underlie the lives of its people. This pemamanen tradition is intended to pay respect to uncles as the highest social structure in the kinship system of the Alas Tribe. In this study, the author used qualitative methods to deepen information through in-depth direct interviews with related informants. And also conducted a literature review to strengthen the information that has been obtained through direct interviews. Through the results of this study, it is shown that the pemamanen tradition has a significant relationship with the kinship system of the Alas Tribe. In the kinship system of the Alas people, uncles are the most revered individuals. Therefore, the implementation of the pemamanen tradition is intended to honor uncles as the highest kinship structure in the sitelu tungku. This study also reveals that uncles as revered people in the kinship of the Alas Tribe have roles and responsibilities for their extended families. In this discussion, it can be seen that the Alas people highly value their kinship system. Therefore, in carrying out their life cycle traditions, they employ ceremonies to honor the position and role of uncles as the highest kinship structure in their system.
