    Abstract
Background: Cardiovascular disease is one of the most common comorbidities of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in young adults. HbA1c levels are used to monitor glycemic control, which is a strong independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease and therefore can be a relevant biomarker for cardiovascular disease prevention. Echocardiography is a key test in assessing myocardial function and can provide important information for identifying individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease. Objective: To analyze the relationship between glycemic control and heart function in children with Diabetes Mellitus. Method: A cross-sectional study to determine the relationship between glycemic control and heart function in children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus at Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, from May 2025 to June 2025. All children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus at Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, who met the inclusion criteria underwent blood tests, ECG, and Echocardiography. The relationship between HbA1c and heart function was analyzed using the Fischer exact test, and bivariate analysis was used to identify related variables. Results: A total of 30 subjects were recruited in this study, there was no significant relationship between HbA1c and heart function in children and adolescents with DM at Adam Malik Hospital, Medan (p=1,000). Conclusion: This study found no significant association between glycemic control and heart function in children and adolescents with diabetes. Further research with a larger sample size, more specific echocardiography techniques, and longer follow-up periods is needed to understand the development of diabetes mellitus complications in children and adolescents.
