AGITRI SESA CLARENSIA GINTING (200304110). Salak Farming Development
Strategy (Salacca Zalacca) in Perbesi Village, Tigabinanga District, Karo
Regency, North Sumatra (Supervised by Ir. Yusak Maryunianta M.P. and Dr. Ir
Sinar Indra Kesuma M.Si. as an Examiner).
This study was conducted in Perbesi Village and aims to formulate
development strategies for salak (snake fruit) farming through the analysis of
internal and external factors affecting its sustainability. The methods used include
SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), IFAS (Internal
Factor Evaluation), EFAS (External Factor Evaluation), and the IE (Internal
External) Matrix to determine the strategic position of the salak farming business.
The results show that salak farming in Perbesi Village is positioned in Quadrant I
of the IE Matrix, indicating high strength and opportunity conditions, thus
supporting an aggressive growth strategy. The recommended SO strategies include
developing value-added salak products, expanding marketing through digital
platforms, and leveraging superior varieties and farmer experience. Meanwhile,
WO strategies focus on utilizing government support to address weaknesses such
as limited irrigation and weak farmer institutions. This research provides
recommendations for farmers to improve production and marketing capacities, for
the government to enhance infrastructure and training programs, and for future
researchers to explore financial and value chain aspects of salak farming more
deeply.
