| dc.description.abstract | This study aims to identify and characterize Toba bananas (Musa
paradisiaca) in Parapat Village, Girsang Sipangan Bolon District, Simalungun
Regency. The study was conducted from January 2025 to February 2025 using a
descriptive survey method. The study was carried out in two stages. The first stage
involved exploration the locations of Toba banana plants. The second stage
involved identification and characterization Toba banana plants based on
guidelines from the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI), with
samples collected using purposive sampling. Based on the observation results of
Toba banana samples in Parapat Village, variation were found among the samples
in terms of stem color, leaf base shape, leaf vein surface color, heart shape, bract
tip shape, bract outer color, pistil base shape, tepals, and the presence of flower
remnants at the fruit tip, ripe fruit skin color, stem diameter, leaf blade width,
number of fruits per cluster, bunch length, number of clusters per bunch, and sugar
content. The coefficient of variation for all Toba banana samples ranged from 4.87
to 18.04. The dissimilarity value of the qualitative characteristics of Toba bananas
ranges from 3 to 121. The combined dissimilarity value of the qualitative and
quantitative characteristics of Toba bananas ranges from 7 to 146.25. Dendrogram
which was obtained using qualitative character data, and qualitative-quantitative
character data showed that Toba banana samples divided two large
clusters/groups. | en_US |
