Batak onion (Allium chinense G. Don) is a traditional herbal plant from
Sumatera Utara known to contain active compounds such as flavonoids, saponins,
and alkaloids, which act as natural antibacterials and are used as phytobiotics.
This study aimed to determine the effect of Batak onion decoction in drinking
water on the carcass quality of broiler chickens. The research was conducted at
the Experimental Cage of the Animal Husbandry Study Program, Universitas
Sumatera Utara. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with one
factor, consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were P0 =
Control, P1 = 15%, P2 = 20%, and P3 = 25%. Batak onion decoction in drinking
water. Observed parameters included slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass
percentage, and abdominal fat percentage. The results showed that the addition of
Batak onion decoction had a significant effect on increasing slaughter weight and
carcass weight with average values ranging from 1432,9 – 1779,4 g and 977,3 –
1203,3 g, respectively. However, it had no significant effect on carcass
percentage and abdominal fat percentage. It can be concluded that Batak onion
decoction can improve slaughter and carcass weight in broilers, with the best
result at the 25% level
