Pengendalian Risiko Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja melalui Penggunaan Biopestisida pada Petani Jambu Madu di Desa Teluk Tahun 2025
Occupational Safety and Health Risk Control through The Use of Biopesticides in Honey Guava Farmers in Teluk Village in 2025
Abstract
Prolonged exposure to chemical pesticides can lead to various health problems for
farmers, such as dizziness, nausea, skin irritation, and even chronic diseases. The
use of biopesticides serves as a safer alternative in controlling occupational safety
and health (OSH) risks in the agricultural sector. This study aims to describe the
application of biopesticides as a form of risk control for the health of honey guava
farmers in Teluk Village, Secanggang Subdistrict, Langkat Regency. This research
employed a descriptive qualitative approach using thematic analysis. Data were
collected through in-depth interviews with three farmers who have adopted
biopesticide use. The results showed that the farmers used fermented acem-acem
leaves (Oxalis dehradunensis) as the main ingredient for biopesticides, which were
applied using electric sprayers during the morning or evening. Farmers
demonstrated awareness of safety practices, including the use of personal
protective equipment (PPE), proper sprayer maintenance, and safe storage of
biopesticide solutions. In addition, there was a noticeable reduction in health
complaints previously associated with chemical pesticide use, such as dizziness,
nausea, and itching. In conclusion, the use of biopesticides is an effective form of
risk control to protect farmers’ health. It is recommended that continuous training
and assistance be provided regarding the safe application of biopesticides, along
with increased awareness on the consistent use of PPE as part of occupational
health and safety efforts in agriculture.
