Community Identity and Lifestyle of Medan Merdeka Runners Members in Medan City.
Abstract
Social identity is a part of a person that is formed based on attachment or affiliation with a particular social group. This identity includes aspects such as ethnicity, religion, work, gender, hobbies, even cultural preferences such as music or sports. In other words, social identity is how a person views themselves in the context of the groups around them. Each individual usually has several social identities that are dynamic and can change over time.
In making this thesis, the research used is qualitative with a constructivist paradigm. In collecting data, observation is the technique used assisted by in-depth interview techniques or in-depth interviews with informants. In analyzing data, the technique used is the Miles and Huberman model analysis. The data sources used to make this thesis are primary data obtained from informants and secondary data obtained from literature studies taken from journals, books, or previous research.
The results of this study indicate that the Medan Merdeka Runners community forms their identity because of the similarity of interests in the field of running, the Medan Merdeka Runners Community creates and strengthens their identity to gain recognition from the wider community by using various visual symbols. The process of identity formation in the community also takes place through three main stages, namely: Social Categorization, Social Identification, and Social Comparison.
