    Abstract
Traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death and injury in Indonesia, including in the city of Medan, which has a high incidence rate. This study aims to analyze the root causes of traffic accidents based on occupation using the fault tree analysis (FTA) method. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with primary data obtained through in-depth interviews with investigators from the Medan Police Traffic Unit, as well as secondary data from police reports and supporting literature. The results of the study show that the professions involved in accidents are civil servants, members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, members of the Indonesian national police, private sector employees, drivers, traders, and farmers. Of these various professions, private employees were the most frequently involved in traffic accidents. FTA analysis revealed that the main factors causing accidents. FTA analysis revealed that the main factors causing accidents were divided into unsafe actions (traffic violations, excessive speed, driving while tired, lack of concentration) and unsafe conditions (potholes, poor lighting, and unroadworthy vehicles). This study confirms that each profession has a different accident risk pattern, so prevention strategies need to be designed specifically for each profession. Recommended efforts include increasing driving safety awareness, improving road infrastructure, stricter traffic law enforcement, and safety education for high-risk workers.
