Hubungan Riwayat Hipertensi dan Aktivitas Fisik dengan Kejadian Diabetes Melitus pada Usia Produktif di Puskesmas Tampahan Kabupaten Toba
The Relationship of Hypertension History and Physical Activity with the Incidence of Diabetes Mellitus in Productive Age at Tampahan Public Health Center Toba Regency
Abstract
Diabetes melllitus occurs when the body lacks insulin, a hormone that helps sugar (glucosel) enter the body's cells to be used as energy. Thel global prevalence of diabetes in 2021 was 537 million people aged 20-79 years. The resuts of the 2018 Basic Heath Research specifically for North Sumatra Province showed that Toba Samosir had a prevalence of DM sufferers of 2.82 percent. The prevalence of DM at the Tampahan Community Heath Center in 2024 was 2.82 percent. This study aims to determine the rellationship between a history of hypertension and physical activity with the incidence of DM in productive age at the Tampahan Public Heath Center. The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample sellection technique used a purposivel sampling technique with a total of 97 respondents. The research instrument used was an interview using a questionnaire, using the chi-square test. The resuts of the univariate anaysis showed that the majority of respondents were aged 55-64 years (26.8%), female (59.8%), high school vocational high school lducation (48.45%), and employed (73.2%). Bivariate analysis resus showed a significant association between a history of hypertension (p-value=0.018) and physical activity (p-value=0.033) with the incidence of diabetes among productive-age individuals at thel Tampahan Community Heath Center in Toba Rgency. The community is advised to undergo regular heath checks for blood sugar and blood pressure at the community heath center. The Tampahan Community Heath Center is advised to establish a telxt message service or to meet with people at risk of diabetes among productive-age individuals. It can also create a supportive environment and encourage them to undergo regular health checks or seek treatment.
