An Analysis of Romantic Elements in Jane Austen‟S Novel Pride and Prejudice

Abstract

This thesis entitled An Analysis of Romantic Elements in Jane Austen‟s Novel Pride And Prejudice. The writer chose the novel Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen because the writer was interested in the novel and in the novel there are many romantic elements.This thesis discuss the romantic elements contained in novel Pride And Prejudice and this thesis also discuss how the atmosphere of romantic literature is contained in the Pride And Prejudice novel. The theory used by the writer in this analysis is the Romantic theory. The research method used by the writer in this thesis is descriptive qualitative method. In this analysis the writer finds seven romantic elements found in Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice novel, namely nature, equality, freedom, fraternity, conscience, simplicity and individuality / egotism, from the seven elements contained in the Pride And Prejudice novel, the elements of freedom and individuality is the dominant element in the Pride And Prejudice novel. The writer also found four atmospheres of romantic, namely sadness, anxiety, moodiness and remoteness.

Skripsi ini berjudul An Analysis of Romantic Elements in Jane Austen‟s Novel Pride And Prejudice. Penulis memilih novel Pride And Prejudice karya Jane Austen karena penulis tertarik terhadap novel tersebut dan didalam novel tersebut banyak terdapat elemen-elemen romantic. Skripsi ini akan membahas elemen-elemen romantic yang terdapat dalam novel Pride And Prejudice dan skripsi ini juga akan membahas bagaimana atmosphere dari karya sastra romantic yang terdapat dalam novel Pride And Prejudice. Teori yang digunakan penulis dalam analisis ini adalah teori Romantic. Metode penelitian yang digunakan penulis dalam skripsi ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Dalam analisis ini penulis menemukan tujuh elemen romantic yang terdapat dalam novel pride and prejudice karya Jane Austen, yaitu nature, equality,freedom, fraternity, conscience, simplicity dan individuality/egotism, dari ketujuh element yang terdapat dalam novel Pride And Prejudice, elemen freedom dan individuality adalah elemen yang dominan di dalam novel Pride And Prejudice. Penulis juga menemukan empat atmosphere dari romantic, yaitu sadness, anxiety, moodiness dan remoteness.
