The selection process for the Professional Psychology Education Program requires valid and reliable measurement tools to assess the cognitive potential of prospective students. The USU General Reasoning Test (UGRT) is one such instrument, with its verbal subtest specifically designed to measure verbal reasoning abilities. This study aims to analyze the quality of the UGRT verbal subtest items, including reliability, item discrimination, and item difficulty level. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method using secondary data from 67 respondents. Reliability was analyzed using Cronbach’s Alpha, item discrimination was assessed through item-total correlation, and item difficulty was measured based on the proportion of correct responses. The results showed that the verbal subtest had a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.531, indicating low reliability. Most test items exhibited low to very low item discrimination, and the majority were classified as difficult based on the difficulty index. These findings highlight the need for item revision and restructuring to improve the validity and reliability of UGRT as a selection tool.
