Library Users' Perception of Facilities and Infrastructure at the Archives and Library Office of Karo Regency
Abstract
Libraries play an important role in providing the information needed by the public.
One ofthe factors that influence user comfort and interest in visiting is the availability
of adequate facilities and infrastructure. The Archives and Library Office of Karo
Regency, as one of the public libraries in North Sumatra, strives to provide the best
possible services. This study aims to determine library users' perceptions of the
facilities and infrastructure at the Archives and Library Office of Karo Regency,
covering four main aspects: library location, building, reading room, and available
facilities. This research employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach.
Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving
key, main, and supporting informants directly engaged in utilizing library facilities.
The results show that users have a very positive perception of the library's location
and building, which are strategic and easily accessible. However, several issues were
found in the management of space and facilities, such as the ineffective placement of
the children's and computer service areas, poorly positioned lockers, unstable internet
connection, and damage to basic facilities such as reading chairs and tables. These
conditions affect users' comfort and satisfaction in accessing library services. The
study concludes that the existing facilities and infrastructure at the Archives and
Library Office of Karo Regency need improvement, particularly in terms of spatial
organization, repair of basic amenities, and optimization of information technology
services. These improvements are expected to create a more comfortable, attractive,
and engaging library environment that supports the enhancement of public reading
interest.
