The Fading of Sacred Values in Naposo Nauli Bulung as Pagar Ni Huta in Janjilobi Village, Barumun Subdistrict, Padang Lawas Regency (A Case Study of the Inactivity of the Naposo Nauli Bulung Association)
Abstract
This study aims to understand the sacred values within the Naposo Nauli Bulung (NNB) organization and to analyze the forms of social conflict that occur between the village government and youth groups. The research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, village officials, and former members of Naposo Nauli Bulung. The data were analyzed through the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The theoretical framework used in this study is Ralf Dahrendorf’s Conflict Theory, which argues that the inequality of authority within social structures serves as the main source of conflict and social change. The findings show that the fading of sacred values within NNB is caused by the dominant control of the village government, which fully manages social and customary activities in the community, thereby limiting the organization’s autonomy and participation space. The conflict is latent, characterized by the weakening of social solidarity, growing youth apathy, and the loss of community trust in NNB’s social role. Sacred values such as marsialap ari (mutual assistance), marsipature hutanabe (collective responsibility to build the village), social responsibility, and respect for elders and traditional leaders have gradually faded due to the imbalance in power distribution. This study concludes that the structural conflict between the village government and youth is the main factor behind the loss of sacred values within NNB. The revitalization of the youth organization and traditional values can only be achieved through the redistribution of authority and the creation of equal opportunities for youth participation in the social life of the village.
