MUHAMMAD AZWAR DAULAY. Analysis of Income and Expenditure of
Smallholder Oil Palm Farmer Households Case Study: Padang Lawas Regency
(Under the supervision of R.B. Moh. Ibrahim Fatoni as academic advisor)
This study aims to analyze the income and household expenditure of smallholder
oil palm farmers and to evaluate their welfare level by comparing per capita
expenditure with 60% of per capita income. The research was conducted in
Padang Lawas Regency with 67 respondents selected using purposive sampling.
The data used consisted of primary data collected through direct interviews using
structured questionnaires, as well as secondary data obtained from relevant
institutions. The analysis was carried out using a descriptive quantitative
approach, which included calculating farm income, additional income, total
household expenditure, and the ratio between per capita expenditure and income.
The results show that most farmers who own less than 3 hectares of land have per
capita expenditure exceeding 60% of their per capita income, indicating that they
fall below the welfare line. In contrast, farmers with more than 4 hectares of land
and those with additional sources of income tend to have a higher standard of
living. The fluctuation in Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) prices is identified as the most
significant factor affecting income instability, particularly among small-scale
farmers.
