Over time, electronic cigarettes have increasingly replaced conventional cigarettes, as they are considered more modern and attractive. This has become a trend among teenagers, including teenage girls, who are driven by curiosity and a desire to integrate into their social environment. This study was conducted at the Cold 'N Brew cafe in Medan with the aim of examining the process of normalizing the use of electronic cigarettes as a form of social acceptance among teenage girls, as well as understanding the underlying motivations. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach and was analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu's theory of comparative patterns. The results show that the normalization of electronic cigarette use is formed through complex social interactions. In the doxa pattern, electronic cigarettes are considered normal and part of the teenage hangout culture. In the orthodox pattern, acceptance is reinforced by peer influence, curiosity, identity exploration, and the perception that electronic cigarettes are safer. However, in the heterodox pattern, rejection remains based on values related to health, religion, morality, and public welfare. The motivation for adolescent girls to use electronic cigarettes is not only as a substitute for conventional cigarettes, but also as a symbol of lifestyle, a form of self-expression, and a means to build image and social presence within the adolescent community.
