Higher education is important for improving the quality of human resources.
Unfortunately, the gross enrollment ratio (APK PT) for higher education in
Indonesia is still below the world average (40%), and in the city of Gunungsitoli it
is only 33.41% (BPS, 2024). This achievement of APK PT indicates a low
intention to pursue further studies in higher education among high school
students. Therefore, this study aims to determine the role of parental social
support on the intention to continue studies in higher education, moderated by
mindset among high school students in the city of Gunungsitoli. The research
sample consisted of 306 high school and vocational school students in
Gunungsitoli, selected through probability sampling techniques with multistage
random sampling. The research measurement tool in the form of a study intention
scale, parental social support, and mindset was disseminated using Google Form.
The analysis results indicate that mindset significantly moderates the relationship
between parental social support and the intention to pursue higher education by
13.6%, while 86.4% is influenced by other factors. Therefore, students' mindsets
need to be developed to improve the intention to pursue higher education.
