Carrots are one of the mainstay horticultural commodities cultivated in Barus
Jahe District, Karo Regency. The benefits of intermediaries for farmers include
providing loans of capital, materials, or equipment to farmers in need. The
disadvantages caused by intermediaries include intermediaries often buying
farmers' crops at very low prices, compared to market prices, often setting
conditions that are burdensome for farmers, such as high interest rates, short terms,
or the obligation to sell crops only to the intermediaries. Intermediaries also often
add high marketing costs and margins, so that the price of agribusiness products
becomes expensive for end consumers. This study aims to analyze the carrot
agribusiness value chain in Barus Jahe District, Karo Regency, and evaluate the
profits and efficiency of each marketing channel. The method used is quantitative
descriptive analysis with a Value Chain Analysis approach. The results of the study
indicate that there are three marketing patterns, with the main actors being
farmers, intermediaries, wholesalers, and retailers. Farmers earned the largest
profit of Rp2,500/kg, followed by intermediaries at Rp2,000/kg, and wholesalers
and retailers at Rp1,000/kg each. The most efficient marketing pattern was pattern
I, which involved only farmers and intermediaries, with a selling price to consumers
of Rp6,500/kg.
