    The Correlation Between the Behavior of Watching Criminal Content on the Instagram Account @tkpmedan and the Public Perception of Security in Medan City

    Abstract
    This research is entitled “The Correlation between Crime Show Viewing Behavior on ‎the Instagram Account @tkpmedan and the Perception of Security in Medan City ‎Society.” The research method is quantitative with a descriptive and inferential ‎‎(correlational) approach. The purpose of this study is to determine the behavior of the ‎people of Medan City in watching criminal shows on the Instagram account ‎@tkpmedan, to understand the perceived security among the community, and to measure ‎the relationship between the behavior of watching criminal shows and the perception of ‎security in Medan City. The theory used is Cultivation Theory. The population in this ‎study consists of followers of the Instagram account @tkpmedan, totaling 220,000 ‎individuals. A sample of 100 people was determined using the Slovin formula with a ‎margin of error of 10% and a confidence level of 90 The study employed purposive ‎sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire using a ‎Likert scale. The researcher conducted several data analysis techniques, including ‎validity and reliability tests, descriptive analysis, and hypothesis testing using the ‎Spearman Rank correlation coefficient The results of the study showed that the viewing ‎behavior of Medan City residents on the @tkpmedan account was classified as high with ‎an average score of 42.18 out of a maximum score of 56, and with a frequency of 96% ‎of respondents falling into the medium to high category and the security perception of ‎Medan City residents was classified as medium to high with an average score of 43.95 ‎out of a maximum score of 55, and with a frequency of 96% of respondents falling into ‎the medium to high category. Hypothesis testing shows a strong and significant ‎relationship between the behavior of watching criminal shows and the perception of ‎security among the community, with a correlation coefficient of 0.744 and a significance ‎level of p < 0.001. Through the correlation determinant test, it was found that exposure ‎to criminal content had a significant relationship with the perception of security of the ‎Medan City community.‎
