Abstract

JELLY ELFRIYENNA BR GINTING (200304047). With the thesis title is Analysis of Carrot Seed Farming Business Income in Kecamatan Tigapanah Kabupaten Karo. Bapak Ir. M. Jufri, M.Si. a Supervisor and Ibu Dr. Lindawati S.P., M.Si. an Examining Lecturer. In 2024, carrot production in Kecamatan Tigapanah increased drastically by 15,380 tons compared to the previous year. This increase in production also led to an increase in demand for carrot seeds. However, the availability of local carrot seeds in the market was not enough to meet farmers' demand, resulting in a seed shortage that caused price increases. This price increase encouraged suppliers to source more carrot seeds from outside the region, such as Java. Ultimately, the supply of carrot seeds in the market became excessive, causing seed prices to fall. This drop in seed prices affected the income of carrot seed farmers. Therefore, an analysis of carrot seed farming income in Kecamatan Tigapanah, Kabupaten Karo, is necessary to determine the extent to which this farming business remains profitable amid price fluctuations and changes in market demand. The purpose of this study was to analyze the income and feasibility of carrot seed farming in Kecamatan Tigapanah. The research area was determined purposively. The sampling method was purposive. The data analysis method used was quantitative analysis, including income analysis and feasibility analysis (R/C Ratio) using Microsoft Excel. The results of this study indicate that the average income obtained by farmers from carrot seed farming in Kecamatan Tigapanah is Rp 19,263,192/MT or Rp 11,113.38/m2. The average income is obtained from the average farmer's income of Rp 22,472,725/MT or Rp 12,965/m2 which is then reduced by the average farmer's total cost of Rp 3,209,533/MT or Rp 1,851.65/m2. The R/C Ratio value obtained from carrot seed farming in Kecamatan Tigapanah is 7, meaning that carrot seed farming is feasible and profitable for farmers to pursue. In other words, every expenditure of Rp 1 from the carrot seed farming business will generate an income of Rp 7.
