    Abstract
Aek Sibundong River is located in Dolok Sanggul District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, North Sumatra Province. The decline in water quality of Aek Sibundong River can have significant impacts on the surrounding communities that rely on the river water for daily activities, affecting their health and quality of life. There are several industrial activities, such as tofu factories and slaughterhouses, in the vicinity of the river that have the potential to degrade the water quality of Aek Sibundong River. The objective of this study is to map the river water quality using Geographic Information System (GIS) application and analyze the water quality status of the river. The method used to determine the water quality status of Aek Sibundong River is the National Sanitation Foundation-Water Quality Index (NSF-WQI) method. Based on the calculation results using the NSF-WQI method, the water quality status of Aek Sibundong River is classified as Heavily Polluted. The calculation results of NSF-WQI values are 28,417 for point 1, 23,572 for point 2, 12,387 for point 3, 36,876 for point 4, 18,327 for point 5, and 16,006 for point 6.
