Abstract
DESVINTA DESI PUSPA ZEGA. Exploration and Characterization of Rice (Oryza sativa L.) in Several Villages in North Nias Regency (under the guidance of HAFNES WAHYUNI, S.P., M.P.) Exploration and characterization activities are crucial in agricultural development. These activities are useful for anticipating or minimizing the extinction of plant germplasm. Characterization of a plant can provide descriptive information about its important traits. This study aims to explore and characterize rice (Oryza sativa L.) in several villages in North Nias Regency, namely Lawira Satua Village, Hilidundra Village, and Umbubalodano Village. The study used a descriptive method with direct observation of six explored rice varieties: Inpari32, Wawayase, Mao-mao, Ramos, Zifitu Bongi, and Zifitu Lima. The parameters observed included qualitative and quantitative morphological characteristics. The analysis results showed significant morphological diversity among the observed rice varieties. Mao-mao rice had the most distinct characteristics, while Inpari32 and Zifitu Lima showed the highest degree of similarity. The dendogram resulting from the kinship analysis showed the varieties grouped into two main groups based on their kinship coefficient values. This study indicates that rice in North Nias Regency has potential as a genetic resource for local variety breeding and preservation programs.
