    Abstract
Bamboo is a versatile plant with high ecological, economic, and socio-cultural value. Simalungun Regency has significant bamboo potential, however spatial information regarding its distribution remains limited. This study aims to analyze bamboo distribution based on land cover classification by calculating the area of bamboo land according to its distance from rivers and settlements using 100-meter and 1-kilometer intervals, and to gather information on various types of bamboo found in Simalungun Regency. This research was conducted from September 2021 to January 2022. From the research results, 11 land cover types were identified, namely clouds, cloud shadows, water bodies, built-up land, bamboo land, shrubs, forest, oil palm plantations, open land, rice fields, and agricultural areas. The classification results of Sentinel-2 imagery show that bamboo land covers an area of 30,729.44 Ha or 6.59% of the total area of Simalungun Regency. The land cover classification accuracy value with the kappa accuracy test is 94.85% with an overall accuracy of 95.58%, indicating that the land cover classification performed has good results. Research found that bamboo grows more abundantly around river networks and near settlements.
