Drought is the relationship between the availability of water that is far below the need for water both for life, agriculture, economic activities and the environment, Langkat Regency is one of the districts in North Sumatra Province, where Langkat Regency consists of 23 sub-districts and has an area of 6,273.29 km². Drought is one of the environmental problems faced by the people of Langkat Regency who most often experience drought disasters.
A drought hazard map is a map that shows the level of danger of an area or community to a drought disaster. A media that is packaged based on actual and factual data obtained from studies and observations that provide data related to how the condition of an area is related to drought, how often it occurs in the area and other informative data related to drought disasters.
In this study, rainfall data in Langkat Regency was tested using the Geographic Information System to obtain a Drought Hazard Map and the Percentage of Land Cultivation that experienced drought in Langkat Regency. The research stage includes the preparation of rainfall data for Langkat Regency for 10 years (2014-2023) for further hydrological analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, a drought index analysis was carried out and then processed using the Geographic Information System.
The results obtained from this study are that in Langkat district there is a fairly extensive drought judging from the results of the Drought Analysis Map that has been formed. The Extreme, Very Dry, and Quite Dry Areas are 5,866,306,052.589566 m2 or 95.77% of the total area in Langkat Regency, which includes plantations, rice fields, settlements, and agriculture in Langkat Regency
