Abstract
Background: Film as a form of visual literature offers fertile ground for character analysis, especially when conveying moral and spiritual themes. Lucy Shimmers and the Prince of Peace (2020) presents an engaging narrative centered around a severely ill child and a guilt-ridden prisoner, whose lives intersect in a transformative way.
Objective: This research aims to describe the character traits and roles of the two main characters, Lucy Shimmers and Edgar Ruiz, and to explore how their interactions convey themes of love, redemption, and spiritual healing.
Method: A qualitative descriptive method is used in this study, focusing on character analysis through dialogue, actions, and key scenes. This analysis applies the characterization theory by Abrams (1999), Pickering & Hoeper (1981), and the character arc framework by Vogler (1992).
Results: This study found that Lucy Shimmers is depicted as a naive and spiritually mature child who serves as a symbolic figure of love and divine purpose. Edgar Ruiz, initially a hardened prisoner filled with guilt, undergoes an emotional and spiritual transformation through Lucy's influence. Their relationship reflects the central themes of forgiveness, hope, and redemption.
Conclusion: The characterization and development of Lucy and Edgar serve as vehicles for the moral and emotional depth of the film. Lucy remains a static character but is spiritually strong, while Edgar undergoes a dynamic transformation. Together, their interactions demonstrate how love and faith can inspire profound personal change.
