Tooth loss is a common condition that can affect chewing, speaking, physical appearance, and cause changes in jawbone structure. Dentures are devices used to replace some or all of the missing natural teeth and to restore the structural changes that occur due to tooth loss. Denture disinfection can be performed using non-traditional disinfectants such as chlorhexidine and traditional methods such as castor oil (Ricinus communis) leaf extract. Castor oil leaves contain active compounds including flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, phenolics, and terpenoids, which can affect the mechanical properties of acrylic resin, such as surface hardness and dimensional stability. The purpose of this study was to determine the value and effect of disinfection of 25% castor bean leaf extract (Ricinus communis) and 0.2% chlorhexidine on the surface hardness and dimensional stability of heat polymerized acrylic resin denture base for a 2-year simulation. This study design was a laboratory experiment with a post-test only design with a control group design. The results of the study were tested using univariate tests and T tests. The results of the T test on the surface hardness and dimensional stability values showed the effect of disinfection of 25% castor bean leaf extract (Ricinus communis) and 0.2% chlorhexidine for a 2-year simulation with a p value = 0.0001 p <0.05). Based on this study, the surface hardness value after disinfection of 25% castor bean leaf extract (Ricinus communis) was still within the ISO 1567:1999 standard limits and the dimensional stability value after disinfection of 25% castor bean leaf extract (Ricinus communis) was still within the normal limits based on ADA No.12. Therefore, 25% extract of castor bean leaves (Ricinus communis) can be used as an alternative material for disinfecting dentures.en_US
