This study aims to analyze the performance of the expander in an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) system integrated with a biomass pyrolysis process using Aspen Plus simulation software. Pyrolysis produces syngas as a potential heat source to be utilized in the ORC system, with the objective of converting thermal energy into electrical energy more efficiently. In this study, three types of organic working fluids— R245fa, R141b, and R123—were used and compared based on their effects on expansion power as well as the thermal efficiency of the expander and the overall system. The simulation results show that the type of working fluid has a significant impact on system performance, both in terms of power output and efficiency. The R245fa working fluid demonstrated the highest thermal efficiency compared to the other two fluids. These findings indicate that utilizing heat from syngas through an ORC system can be an effective approach to improving energy efficiency in biomass- based systems. This study is expected to contribute to the development of more sustainable and efficient renewable energy systems.en_US
