Geisha, as a representation of traditional Japanese culture, has undergone significant changes along with modernisation. This study aims to analyse the development of Geisha in modern Japan and their role and contribution to the preservation of traditional culture. Using a descriptive qualitative method with thematic analysis, this study examines primary data from the documentary film ‘The History & Art of the Geisha’. Running time 86 minutes. The results show that Geisha have adapted to modern times, as reflected in the evolution of their appearance, including the development of kimono motifs, the modernisation of makeup, the use of practical wigs (katsura), and adaptations to sandals (geta) and fans (sensu). Geisha play a crucial role as living museums and cultural ambassadors. They actively preserve and introduce traditional Japanese arts, such as dance, music, and etiquette, to domestic and international audiences, while also serving as symbols of inspiration, perseverance, and discipline.en_US
