| dc.description.abstract | Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is one of the most
common knee injuries that can lead to instability and early osteoarthritis if
untreated. Several anatomical factors have been proposed to predispose
individuals to ACL rupture, including the morphology of the lateral femoral
condyle. The Lateral Femoral Condyle Ratio (LFCR) measured on sagittal MRI
has been suggested as a reliable parameter to evaluate the posterior convexity of
the lateral femoral condyle, which may influence ACL injury risk.
Objective: To determine the difference in Lateral Femoral Condyle Ratio (LFCR)
between patients with ACL rupture and individuals with normal knees.
Methods: This observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was
conducted at H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan, from 2021 to 2024. A
total of 60 subjects were included, consisting of 30 patients with confirmed ACL
rupture and 30 individuals with normal knees as controls. The LFCR was
measured using sagittal MRI images of the distal femur, and statistical analysis
was performed using an independent t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05.
Results: The mean LFCR in the ACL rupture group was significantly higher (0.68
± 0.03) compared to the normal group (0.61 ± 0.02) with p < 0.001. This indicates
that a greater posterior convexity of the lateral femoral condyle is associated with
increased ACL rupture risk.
Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the Lateral Femoral Condyle
Ratio between individuals with ACL rupture and those with normal knees. Higher
LFCR values may serve as an anatomical risk factor for ACL rupture and can aid
in risk assessment and preventive strategies. | en_US |
