Diplomatic relations are an important instrument in maintaining international cooperation and stability, but they often face complex dynamics. The expulsion of the French Ambassador by Burkina Faso in 2022 is a concrete example of how failure to address security issues, especially terrorism, can trigger tensions and lead to the termination of diplomatic relations. The problems in this study are: (1) How is the status of immunity rights for diplomatic officials according to the 1961 Vienna Convention, (2) How is the diplomatic relationship between Burkina Faso and France in the perspective of diplomatic law, and (3) What are the consequences of termination of diplomatic relations between Burkina Faso and France in failing to combat terrorism according to diplomatic law. The research method used is normative juridical. The data source used is secondary data. Data collection techniques and tools are literature studies with document studies. The data analysis used is qualitative data analysis. The result of this research is that the 1961 Vienna Convention is an international legal instrument used as a basis for diplomatic relations. The right of immunity granted to diplomats is not for personal gain but to ensure the smooth implementation of diplomatic functions between countries to run smoothly. The receiving country has full sovereignty in declaring persona non grata against foreign diplomats, expulsion of ambassadors is considered valid if the diplomatic mission is not in accordance with national interests. Understanding diplomatic law is the basis for maintaining a balance between protection for diplomatic representatives and the sovereignty of the receiving country. The termination of diplomatic relations between Burkina Faso and France has a significant impact on security, diplomatic, political, economic, and geopolitical aspects, and makes it vulnerable in facing the threat of terrorism.en_US
