This study aims to find the use and types of kandoushi odoroki in the Doraemon anime by
using pragmatic theory as the basis of analysis. The background of this study is to find out
how kandoushi odoroki is used in the anime and the types of kandoushi odoroki that exist in
conversations between characters. Data were collected and analyzed through a qualitative
descriptive approach that uses observation and document analysis methods. The study found
21 data on the use of kandoushi odoroki, including ええ (Ee) eight times, わあ (Waa) four
times, あれ (Are) twice, ああ (Aa) twice, へえ (Hee) twice, まあ (Maa) once, and えっ (E)
twice. In addition, kandoushi odoroki is divided into three types based on when it is used:
when a meeting or event occurs suddenly, when getting information or something that is not
understood, and when getting information in depth. This data is taken from Doraemon
episodes 571–575. This study found that kandoushi odoroki is used diversely in the
Doraemon anime and can be divided into three types based on their context, which helps us
understand the expression of surprise in character conversations
