dc.description.abstractThis study aims to examine the information literacy of students at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, in completing their academic assignments based on the Big Six model. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through interviews involving ten subjects. The participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that in the Task Definition stage, students were able to define their assignments by applying effective steps aligned with task requirements. In the Information Seeking Strategies stage, the students demonstrated the ability to apply appropriate strategies based on the type of assignment and to select sources by considering credibility, quality, and relevance; however, some participants did not evaluate their sources before they use it. In the Location and Access stage, the students were able to identify the location and sources of information by evaluating the sources in terms of accessibility and availability. In the Use of Information stage, the students could effectively utilize the information obtained. At the Synthesis stage, the students were able to integrate information from various sources through summarization, combining opinions, and organizing them according to the task structure. Weaknesses, however, were found in the Evaluation stage, as most participants had not conducted evaluations optimally. Overall, the information literacy of students at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, in completing academic assignments based on the Big Six model can be considered to be at a satisfactory level.en_US
