This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using flashcard media in
improving color recognition skills in children with autism spectrum disorder
(ASD). The study employed a quantitative method with a Single Subject Research
(SSR) approach using an A–B–A design, which consisted of an initial baseline
phase (A1), an intervention phase (B), and a final baseline phase (A2). The
subject of this research was one child with ASD who participated in an individual
therapy program. Data were collected through observation using a checklist sheet
and an assessment rubric that included three behavioral indicators: naming colors,
pointing to colors, and grouping objects by color. The results showed that in phase
A1, the participant's average score was 33.3%. After the flashcard intervention
was administered during phase B, the score increased to 86.4%. In phase A2, the
score remained high at 92.6%. Visual analysis indicated a clear shift in trend
direction from flat to significantly increasing, along with high data stability during
the intervention and follow-up phases. These findings indicate that the use of
flashcards is effective in enhancing color recognition skills in children with ASD.
The intervention not only improved the participant's ability during the treatment
phase but also showed good retention effects after the intervention ended. These
results are supported b previous studies that emphasize the strong visual learning
preferences of children with ASD.
