Background. Seborrheic keratosis is a common benign skin lesion, especially in older adults. Excessive sunlight exposure, particularly ultraviolet (UV) radiation, is suspected to play a role in its development. In tropical regions such as Indonesia, outdoor workers like street vendors are at high risk of prolonged sun exposure.
Objective. To determine the relationship between the duration of sunlight exposure and the incidence of seborrheic keratosis among street vendors. Methods. This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design. A total of 50 street vendors aged ≥30 years were selected using a consecutive sampling method. The diagnosis of seborrheic keratosis was established through anamnesis, physical examination, and evaluation using a simple magnifying loupe with LED illumination (10×). Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with SPSS version 27 (p < 0.05). Results. Most respondents were aged 45–59 years (38%) and male (54%). The majority were exposed to sunlight for ≥6 hours per day (76%). Seborrheic keratosis was found in 22 respondents (44%). A significant relationship was found between sunlight exposure duration and the incidence of seborrheic keratosis (p = 0.016; PR = 2.049; 95% CI: 1.384–3.034). Conclusion. The duration of sunlight exposure is significantly associated with the incidence of seborrheic keratosis among street vendors in East Medan.
