Background. Myopia is a refractive error in which light is focused in front of the retina, resulting in blurred vision, particularly among young individuals. Increased near-work activities such as reading and prolonged digital device use have contributed to the rising prevalence of myopia. Previous studies suggest that visual disturbances and circadian rhythm alterations associated with myopia may affect sleep quality. Objective. To determine the association between moderate and high myopia with sleep quality among young adults. Methods. This analytical cross sectional study involved 40 medical students from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, academic years 2022–2023, who were examined at the Eye Clinic of Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan, 20155, INDONESIA. Myopia severity was assessed using the Snellen chart, while sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact test. Results. Most respondents were 21 years old (60%) and male (57.5%). Moderate myopia was found in 62.5% of participants, while 37.5% had high myopia. Poor sleep quality was reported in 52.5% of participants with moderate myopia and 35% of those with high myopia. Fisher’s Exact test yielded a p-value of 0.633 (p > 0.05), indicating no significant association between myopia severity and sleep quality. Conclusion. There is no significant relationship between moderate or high myopia and sleep quality among young adults. Keywords: myopia, sleep quality, young adults, PSQI.en_US
