Hubungan Antara Konsumsi Kopi Dengan Penurunan Muscle Fatigue Pada Latihan Gym Intensitas Sedang Hingga Tinggi Di Rest Gym Medan Tuntungan
The Relationship Between Coffee Consumption and the Reduction of Muscle Fatigue During Moderate to High-Intensity Gym Workouts at Rest Gym Medan Tuntungan
Abstract
Background: Muscle fatigue is a decline in the muscle’s ability to generate force
after moderate to high-intensity physical activity. One strategy believed to delay
muscle fatigue is coffee consumption, as caffeine acts as a central nervous system
stimulant with ergogenic effects. This study aimed to analyze the relationship
between coffee consumption and reduced muscle fatigue among individuals
performing moderate to high-intensity gym workouts at Rest Gym Medan
Tuntungan. Objective: To determine the effect of coffee consumption on muscle
strength and endurance during moderate to high-intensity gym exercises. Methods:
This research used a true experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group
design. Thirty respondents were randomly divided into two groups: a treatment
group that received robusta coffee (3.25 g dissolved in 150 ml of water,
approximately 78 mg of caffeine) and a control group that received mineral water.
Both groups underwent muscle strength testing using the 1 Repetition Maximum
(1RM) bench press and muscle endurance testing using the Lat Pulldown exercise
assessed with the Borg CR10 scale. Data were analyzed using the non-parametric
Mann–Whitney U test. Result: The results showed significant differences between
the coffee and control groups in both muscle strength (Asymp. Sig.=0.000) and
muscle endurance (Asymp. Sig.=0.015). Conclusion: Coffee consumption
significantly improves muscle strength and endurance, effectively reducing muscle
fatigue during moderate to high-intensity gym training.
