Introduction: The age of 15–18 years is the initial age when central obesity can be diagnosed. Adolescents tend to follow trends, including the consumption of fatty foods, sugar-sweetened beverages, and instant lifestyles that increase cases of central obesity. Objective: To determine whether there is a relationship between gender, family history of obesity, sleep duration, physical activity, consumption of fatty foods, consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages, and nutritional status with central obesity in adolescents at SMA Islam Al-Ulum Terpadu Medan. Method: This study is a quantitative study with an analytical approach and a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 179 students of SMA Islam Al-Ulum Terpadu Medan, grades XI and XII, taken through a total sampling method. Data were primarily obtained through anthropometric measurements and questionnaires. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-square test with SPSS software. Results and discussion: Of the 179 individuals, the majority were female (55.9%), 16 years old (50.8%), had no family history of obesity (85.5%), slept less than 8 hours per day (54.2%), had low physical activity (47.5%), had low consumption of fatty foods (76.5%), had excessive consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (56.4%), had good nutritional status (61.5%), and did not have central obesity (74.9%). Bivariate analysis showed an association between family history of obesity (p<0.05), consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (p<0.05), and nutritional status (p<0.001) with central obesity. However, there was no association between gender (p>0.05), sleep duration (p>0.05), physical activity (p>0.05), or consumption of fatty foods (p>0.05) with central obesity. Conclusion: There is an association between family history of obesity, consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages, and nutritional status with central obesity in adolescents.en_US
