Analisis Kesenjangan Pemanfaatan Koleksi Berdasarkan Sitiran Skripsi Mahasiswa di Perpustakaan Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Medan

Abstract

This study analyzes the gap in collection utilization at the Library of the Faculty of Language and Arts, Medan State University (FBS UNIMED), by comparing the available library collection with the information sources cited in students’ theses. This study aims to identify the extent of the utilization gap and to analyze citation patterns that reflect students’ reference needs. A quantitative approach was employed using a stratified random sampling technique to ensure the representativeness of each thesis group. The analysis was conducted on 100 undergraduate theses from 10 study programs at FBS UNIMED during the 2020– 2024 period. The results indicate that out of 1,198 book citations, 707 titles (59.01%) were not available in the library collection, while 491 titles (40.99%) were available. These findings reveal a substantial gap in collection utilization. In conclusion, students’ reference needs in thesis writing have not been optimally supported, as many core titles that are most frequently cited are not available in the library collection, resulting in limited collection support for the academic writing process.
