The conversion of agricultural land use from coffee to carrot cultivation in Regaji
Village, Karo Regency, reflects the dynamics of farmers’ decision-making in response
to economic, social, and environmental factors. This study aims to analyze the factors
influencing land-use conversion decisions and to determine the priority of criteria using
the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. AHP was chosen because it effec-
tively addresses multi-criteria problems in a structured manner through hierarchical
modeling, weighting, and consistency testing. Primary data were collected through
questionnaires distributed to 30 farmers who have converted their coffee plantations
to carrot fields. The results indicate that among the seven criteria analyzed, the
three highest priorities are harvest duration (30.02%), farmers’ income (25.12%), and
production yield (13.36%). These findings suggest that farmers tend to prioritize faster
capital turnover and more stable income potential when selecting horticultural crops.
The application of AHP in this study is expected to serve as a reference for more rational
agrarian decision-making and to support adaptive and sustainable land-use planning.
